About this event

Edinburgh-based artist and prolific songwriter Cera Impala returns to The Traverse with Persephone, a 26-track double album born from heartbreak, healing, mythology, and a profound connection to nature. The first half, the much-anticipated Demeter’s Daughter, was engineered by Tim Lane at Keith Bridge Studio, East Lothian. Inspired by bygone goddess cultures and the majesty and wisdom of the natural world, the album explores the full terrain of human experience — loss, longing, resilience, transformation, and renewal. Cera’s music draws on the deep traditions of American acoustic music, from Delta blues and 1920s–40s torch jazz to folk and roots, while evolving into something unmistakably her own: cinematic, soulful, thoughtful and quietly powerful. Fans often describe her music as a tonic — “Just what I needed, to feel better.” A seasoned international performer, Cera has spent the past year building remarkable momentum in the United States, completing two US tours that have taken her from the West Coast through New Orleans, Arkansas, Colorado, and Kansas City. Fresh from her latest American tour, she returns to Edinburgh to unveil Persephone in this special pre-release performance, joined by regular collaborators and guest musicians. Demeter’s Daughter is music for anyone who has been broken open by life and found a way through — a celebration of becoming, and of discovering the strength to stand on your own and reconnect with the best parts of yourself.
