Timmy Allan’s new modern jazz/ambient album ‘Water Games’ takes direct inspiration from 20th century French composer Maurice Ravel’s piano piece “Jeux D’eau” which translates to Water Games in English. The album comprises of original compositions by Allan played by a Scotland’s top jazz musicians Paul Harrison (pno), Ali Watson (d bs), and Greg Irons (dr). The music holds one foot in the modern jazz camp and the other foot in the ambient post-rock encampment. Think improvisational playfulness paired with ambient water-like textures.

Not the same tradition as the lineage above — a genuinely different thread to pull, if you want one.
