About this event

Chart the life of the legendary musician and writer Patti Smith as she discusses her intimate memoir Bread of Angels in conversation with Dua Lipa. In an iconic pairing, Lipa talks to Patti Smith about her most intimate work to date. Smith’s memoir Bread of Angels describes her post-World War II childhood in a condemned housing complex in Philadelphia and her teenage years in New Jersey (where her quest for artistic purity takes hold), all the way through to her emergence as a punk-rock icon with her seminal album, Horses. At the peak of her creative powers, Smith and her beloved Fred ‘Sonic’ Smith chose a life outside of the public eye to start a family on Lake St. Clair, Michigan. When Smith suffered profound loss, writing remained her companion on a lifelong journey driven by artistic freedom. Patti Smith is one of the captivating writers at work today on the craft of writing, the healing potential of art and the power of artistic freedom. This conversation is recorded live for the Service95 Book Club podcast. Founded by Dua Lipa, the Service95 Book Club is a space to enjoy all things literary, including Dua’s hand-picked Monthly Reads and her exclusive author interviews, plus new book trends, recommendations from the Service95 team and more ways for you to read the world differently.
