Jasmine Jethwa’s music is shaped by a blend of Western and Indian influences and her South London upbringing, combining rich emotion with an instinctive sense of melody and harmony. Growing up, she was immersed in sound and movement, training from a young age in contemporary, jazz and ballet. That physical relationship to rhythm still runs through her songwriting, giving her songs a sense of momentum and emotional pull. Her earliest musical memories come from long car journeys soundtracked by artists such as David Gray, Tracy Chapman, Dido, The Eagles and the Gipsy Kings. Those records left her with a lasting love of acoustic, guitar-led music. Alongside this, watching Bollywood films with her Gujarati grandmother introduced her to Hindi melodies and vocal traditions that subtly inform her expressive vocal style. Jasmine’s songs blend folk-tinged acoustic pop with a reflective, inward-focused and honest sensibility. As she prepares her next release, she is leaning further into the mysticism that runs through her music, creating songs that feel both intimate and transportive, rooted in feeling as much as form. Please arrive early before event door times if you have preferred seats. Due to the nature of our venue, please be prepared to queue for entry. The venue is fully accessible, with use of ramps and the upstairs bar is accessible with use of a platform lift. Please email [email protected] with any specific accessibility requirements, that we should be aware of, as soon as you purchase your ticket as requests are dealt with on a first come, first serve basis. The bar is located on the first floor of the venue and will be open from the stated door time and remain open after the show. Alcohol consumption will be limited to the bar area only, it is not permitted to take alcohol to the main chapel space. An array of soft drinks and snacks will also be available and are permitted in the main space - please note the Union Chapel bar and kiosk accept card payment only. Strictly no food or drink may be brought from outside into the venue. Water bottles must be emptied before entering the venue, with refilling stations available inside. Lucine Musaelian & The Khio Trio (Music from Armenia) Book Now Home / Events / Lucine Musaelian & The Khio Trio (Music from Armenia) The programme features Lucine’s unique sound as a vocalist self-accompanied by the viola da gamba, supported by colourful instrumental combinations that include kaval, clarinet, piano, percussion, and vielle. Audiences are drawn into an intimate and immersive listening experience, moving through a shifting landscape of emotion, memory and sound in which tradition is not fixed but continually reimagined. The Khio Trio explores the music of Armenian life, casting a contemporary light on ancient stories of land, diaspora, and spirituality. The convergence of Lucine Musaelian’s Armenian identity, Oliver Dover’s command of traditional wind instruments, and Fred Thomas’ improvisatory powers creates a sound rooted in tradition yet alive to Armenian themes of renewal and regeneration. Traditional mountain dance music sits alongside songs of love and exile, while haunting chants dating back to the 10th century are reworked, revealing a faith still embedded in Armenian spiritual life. Through this striking blend of sonorities, Khio Trio has assembled its own book of Armenian music, blurring the lines between old and new, and softening the edges between past and present.
