Forging a career over four decades in countless genres, Devin Townsend has reached cult status in the progressive-metal world for his polymathic talent and continual pushing of the envelope. In 2025, after a career including iconic performances at Royal Albert Hall and multiple world tours, Townsend announced an indefinite hiatus from touring. Having then delivered the live debut in Groningen of ‘The Moth’, his most ambitious work to date, it was only natural to need a break. Townsend returned home to complete the studio album of ‘The Moth’ (out 29th May on InsideOut Music) and to rebuild himself in preparation for the next stage. According to Townsend; “The Moth feels like the culmination of all my musical experiences and my journey in life so far. And as ‘The Moth’ spreads its wings, I’m also aware of how much I’ve changed, and consequently how much remains to be expressed.” More Information: For Accessibility, please click here. Polish Jazz Festival 2026 presents Warsaw Jazz Takeover. As the Polish capital, Warsaw boasts one of the most vibrant and pulsating music scenes in Europe and the current edition of Polish Jazz Festival brings a celebration of this music to Union Chapel by showcasing some of the key artists from the jazz and world music communities. The night will kick off with an energetic and young guitar driven jazz trio - HVMBLE. The second set will come at the hands of the multi-award winning Marcin Masecki Trio. Masecki’s engaging virituosic piano compositions operate at the intersection of jazz, latin, classical and experimental music. The Warsaw Jazz Takeover will be completed by a legendary world music ensemble - Warsaw Village Band. Nominated for the BBC World Music Award, this 8 piece presents a musical language rooted in traditional folk combined with surrealistic, spacious improvisational jams. Reporting From the Front Lines, with Lyse DoucetUnion Chapel · N1
As the BBC’s Chief International Correspondent, Lyse Doucet has witnessed and reported on some of the most consequential events of our time. She has reported from Iran and Afghanistan since 1988, played a leading role in the BBC's coverage of the Arab Spring uprisings reporting from Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and Syria, and has covered major wars as well as efforts to make peace in the Middle East since 1994. In 2022 she covered the Russian invasion of Ukraine live from Kyiv as Putin’s tanks crossed the border. And most recently having reported on the ground in Iran in February 2026, Doucet has been a hugely insightful voice explaining the consequences of the U.S-Israeli led war on the country and what it means for the world. Doucet is renowned for her compassionate, human-centred reporting often in times of war and suffering. On September 15, she comes to the Intelligence Squared stage to share her reflections and insights from the frontlines. Doucet will also discuss the themes and approach of her Women’s Prize-shortlisted book, The Finest Hotel in Kabul, a vivid history of Afghanistan as seen from the iconic Inter-Continental Hotel. Drawing on years of interviews with its staff and guests, the book traces the country’s tumultuous history - from the Soviet withdrawal and civil war to the US invasion and the return of the Taliban - through the prism of this landmark hotel and the lives of the staff who kept it running during war and peace.
