About this event
American schoolboy Bobby and his friend Akkun take a shortcut through the mountains and discover a mysterious amusement park called Violence Voyager. Armed with water pistols, they enter what appears to be an innocent adventure game, but soon find children trapped inside a cruel experiment involving chemical weapons, grotesque mutations and an army of mechanical monsters. Created using Ujicha’s distinctive gekimation technique, in which hand-painted cardboard figures are manipulated before the camera, VIOLENCE VOYAGER transforms childhood adventure into a tactile, psychedelic nightmare. The deliberately limited movement makes every eruption of blood and bodily transformation feel disturbingly physical. Funny, imaginative and increasingly horrifying, the film occupies a unique space between picture-book innocence, underground animation and extreme body horror. Introduced by James Balmont - film critic and writer.
