About this event
50/50 Split ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Content warnings include: Descriptions of a controlling relationship and attempted suicide ------------------------------------------------------------------------- In a deserted circus, drama, humour, music and songs tell the true story of actress Tilly Wedekind. When her controlling, famous husband, Frank Wedekind (writer of Spring Awakening which became an award-winning Broadway musical) robs Tilly of her acting roles he reduces her to a Nobody and, broken-hearted, she attempts suicide. She fights to recover, reclaims her career and writes her own story to assert her own identity and become a Somebody. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Drawing on her own experience of being trapped in a coercive relationship, Bella Martin’s internationally acclaimed, tour-de-force solo performance confronts vital questions around toxic relationships, co-dependency and the silencing of women's voices, to reflect on identity, love and the transformative power of self-discovery.
