A landmark in Shakespearean cinema that translates Macbeth to the world of feuding Japanese warlords and that uses elements of Noh theatre with Lady Macbeth in white make-up. About the season: People often say that if Shakespeare were alive today he would be writing for the movies. What is startling is how often, since the beginnings of cinema, his plays have been adapted for the screen. Following a highly successful season devoted to the work of Harold Pinter, Chiswick Cinema now focuses on the infinite variety of filmed Shakespeare and will accompany four major screenings with talks, supplementary showings and celebrity interviews.
