About this event
Eldar Shengelaia is one of Georgia’s leading directors, and the 10th edition of the festival is screening 2 of his earlier films, in celebration of his life after his death last year at the age of 92. The closing film of the festival is The White Caravan , a poetic exploration of the conflict between traditional rural life and modernity. The story follows a young shepherd who abandons his ancestral nomadic lifestyle and his beloved for the allure of city life, only to confront the tragic consequences of his choices. The film was entered into the 1964 Cannes Film Festival. In April 2019, a restored version of the film was selected to be shown in the Cannes Classics section at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
