How can fear shape the way we understand the world, ourselves and our identities? Trauma is experienced differently by each person, and exploring it in relation to gender and sexuality means taking into account cultural histories, lived experiences, feelings around identity, and the events and environments LGBTQ+ people may have to navigate. Drawing on 14 years of experience working with people in activist contexts and as a Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversities therapist, Katie Evans explores fear both from one-off traumatic events and from prolonged, complex periods. She examines identity, shame, grief, abuse and harassment, alongside historical trauma, relationships to sex and the body, and how wider systems and society can intensify distress. She has presented at conferences across Europe and spoken for organisations including The Maudsley, the British Psychological Society, the NHS, LGBT Foundation and HMPPS. Katie is also a registered guest lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University, and draws on 14 years of experience working with people in activist and therapeutic contexts.
