About this event
Uncover the science behind OCD and the breakthroughs transforming how we understand and treat it. Followed by Q&A. Around 2-3% of the global population live with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) – making it one of the most debilitating mental health conditions worldwide. But what's actually happening in the brain when an intrusive thought takes hold, and why does it refuse to let go? In this workshop, Prof Athanasios Hassoulas takes us inside the mechanisms behind obsessive thoughts: why certain minds latch onto them, why they carry such intense significance for those living with OCD, and what's unfolding at a neurochemical level when they do. From there, we turn to treatment – tracing the shift from standard therapies to holistic, biopsychosocial approaches that combine pharmacology and psychology. Looking ahead, we'll explore how emerging innovations like AI and immersive technology are paving the way for more integrated, effective care.
