About this event

Understand why emotions can overwhelm us, and learn evidence-based tools to build lasting emotional balance. Followed by Q&A. How often do you find yourself overwhelmed by your own emotions, or someone else's? Or does feeling "too much" send you into withdrawal, shutdown or even isolation? Emotions are highly functional and adaptive – but they can also feel disruptive, even harmful, when we don't know how to process them. How we respond to emotions shapes our sense of wellbeing and the quality of our relationships, more than almost anything else. In this workshop, drawing on the psychology and neuroscience of emotional wellbeing, we'll explore why emotional dysregulation happens, how to re-establish balance, and – crucially – how to maintain it. There's no one-size-fits-all approach here, so we'll draw on a range of techniques, from guided self-reflection to mindfulness and body-based practices, with hands-on exercises woven throughout so you can explore the topic somatically. Understand strong emotional reactions and their 'protective' intentions Learn effective strategies to handle emotional dysregulation and expand coping capacities Develop a compassionate and self-caring mindset in the face of intense or triggering situations Enjoy a group-based experience led by an empathetic expert Jessi Komes PhD is a clinician-scientist, working as a body-oriented psychotherapist and treatment developer at the University Hospital of Bonn. She has decades of experience as a (clinical) researcher, lecturer and trainer, therapist, yoga teacher and mind-body coach. Given her variety of qualifications, she is known for her unique approach to topics weaving together different and often contrasting views. Over the years she has been invited to speak and facilitate workshops on the brain-body communication, and e.g. its role for overall health and therapeutic practice at various international conferences and institutions.
