Our cities consist of a multitude of places and spaces – natural and human-made – that we must, in principle, navigate as a collective. Yet, for those of us who identify as female, these very same streets and walkways often require a consideration far beyond their practical use. In The Feminist Art of Walking , psychogeographer and founder of the Loiterer’s Resistance movement, Morag Rose wanders the UK to reveal the gendered conception and construction of our cities, documenting the stories and practices of women who are using the simple walk as a way of reclaiming urban space and safety. In Wolf Moon , writer and theatre critic Arifa Akbar journeys into the night, tackling her lifelong battle with insomnia and sleep paralysis to weave a somnambulant, sometimes unsettling story of workers and artists carving out an existence under the cover of dark.
