About this event
Book tickets for two or more of our Claude Chabrol films in the same transaction to receive a discount! A stoic butcher and a repressed headteacher strike up an unlikely relationship in the village of Trémolat - however, a gruesome spate of Ripper-esque homicides breaks out in the area at the same time. Claude Chabrol directs his wife Stéphane Audran in this finest of collaborations between the married couple. In fact, it's a wonder this film is as good as it is - Chabrol, renowned for drunken antics on set, is remembered by Audran to have drank so much wine during the shooting of The Butcher one day that he had to be taken away from set on a cart! However, despite this, the film is considered to be one of the French New Wave director's greatest films, being listed on Roger Ebert's Great Movies list and included in Steven Schneider's 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die .
