sounding towards - - Sunday jams Summer to autumn 2026 Come along for the Sunday jams , self-organised sessions by artists and our community, happening in the main gallery as part of sounding towards - - . Every Sunday between 2–4pm, El Warcha's Common Frequencies opens its doors for public takeovers. This is an invitation to self-organise your own sonic experiments and gatherings, to step up to the decks and spin the record you would like to play, to tune the room to your frequencies. In the spirit of the jam, the room is yours to shape for two hours at a time. The equipment in the space is yours to use, and you're welcome to bring your own. Our only ask is that your takeover stays in dialogue with the wider project of sounding towards - - . Note: all Sundays are currently fully booked. 20 September, 2-4pm Imperio Bamba Imperio Bamba take over the Sunday jam space to improvise and practice the soundings of the House of Bamba, the literal and symbolic house where members of the band live and where they meet to compose and rehearse. The House of Bamba sounds like cumbia and festejo, like tumbao and salsa — they will be embodying these sounds and sharing their ever-evolving songs. Expect to hear some of the band's most cherished records, and to join them in singing in a shared moment of enjoyment that aims to help us all sustain our hopes for better and broader futures. RSVP required 27 September, 2-4pm Radio Iso Sunday Jam Radio Iso(lation) started over Zoom during the pandemic; a deep listening and music sharing group that has since grown into a loose collective of music makers, DJs and listeners. We'll explore the installation's instruments and archives with an open minded and relaxed approach to collective sound making. All abilities welcome. Drop in 4 October, 2-4pm Ambient Gaza | Living Maps in Sound & Texture This session combines engaged listening with touch, guided by an audio tour of Gaza – from singing on the beach, to a beloved bookshop in Gaza City, to an aunt's farmland in Rafah. Participants can feel those words on a huge hand embroidered banner and leave written responses to communities speaking from a Gaza still under siege. Afterwards, join art collective Ambient Gaza and textile artist Rim Irscheid for a conversation on how we engage with Gazan life, push back against dehumanising media narratives, and co-create vocabulary for agency and hope. RSVP required 11 October, 2-4pm Vania Gonzalvez | Sounding Towards Home This session is a gentle gathering for families, where listening becomes a way of being together. Drawing from music that has accompanied our own family life, Vania Gonzalvez will share songs alongside personal reflections, poetry, and fragments of writing that speak to the spirit of sounding towards - - . The session invites families to listen, dance, rest, play, and respond however they wish. There is no right way to participate—whether you sway with a child, sit and listen, chat with others, or simply share the space. Together, we'll create an atmosphere of care, joy, and communion through sound and movement. RSVP required 18 October, 2-4pm Restoring Memories of Home More information coming soon... 25 October,2-4pm Juice & Junze Zhang | Speaking Nearby This session is a participatory workshop and collective performance exploring how listening can create temporary communities. Participants collect voices, environmental sounds and everyday sonic fragments from within and around Mosaic Rooms, before transforming recycled materials and simple audio components into portable sound devices. These handmade instruments become tools for layering, reshaping and sharing personal acoustic archives. The workshop culminates in an open collective improvisation combining field recordings, live voices, handmade devices and instruments already inhabiting the space. Inspired by Trinh T. Minh-ha’s concept of “speaking nearby,” the project approaches listening as an ethical practice of being alongside rather than speaking for others. Through tangible echoes, memory, migration, identity and place become shared materials for collective sonic world-building. RSVP required Past jams: 9 August, 2-4pm Space Black Alternative Spaces for Sudanese Music & Dance | A co-design session 6 September, 2-4pm Migrants Organise x Lobna Sana Artist Lobna Sana and members of Migrants Organise bring the textile they've been weaving together, across a series of workshops, into the exhibition — a chance for the group to celebrate their work. This is a closed session. 13 September, 2-4pm Old Mountain Assembly Join Old Mountain Assembly for a listening session and reading group exploring the censorship and criminalisation of Roma wedding music, assimilationist policies under state socialism and their post-socialist afterlives, and anti-Roma racism as an organising force in Bulgarian social and cultural life.
