About this event
Screening as part of STAB! "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" Academy Award winner Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall star in director Stanley Kubrick's disturbing adaptation of Stephen King's blockbuster horror novel. Aspiring writer Jack Torrance (Nicholson) travels to a remote Colorado hotel with his wife (Duvall) and son (Danny Lloyd) to take up the position of winter caretaker. In a place haunted by ghosts from the past, which his gifted son becomes all too aware of, Jack gradually loses his sanity. Kubrick’s ambition to make ‘the world's scariest movie’ was realised when he read Stephen King’s novel. The result, subject to years of critical discourse and re-evaluation, is as visually stunning as it is terrifying. This screening is 18+ and the film will begin at the advertised time above. Content Warnings: severe depictions of domestic and parental abuse, alcoholism and substance abuse, graphic violence, and intense psychological terror. Runtime: 144 minutes Director: Stanley Kubrick Country: U.S.A Year: 1980 Film
