75 mins Danny Boyle joins us at HOME for the first ever BFI London Film Festival Screen Talk held outside of the capital. During this discussion, the director of films such as Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire, and upcoming feature Ink will discuss a career that has placed him among the most successful British filmmakers. Following a successful early career in theatre and television, Mancunian Danny Boyle’s entry into feature filmmaking came with two very different but equally explosive Edinburgh-set dramas: the darkly comic domestic thriller Shallow Grave and the era-defining Trainspotting. A Life Less Ordinary and The Beach saw him branch out, while his back-to-basics, nerve-shreddingly terrifying zombie thriller 28 Days Later was not only instrumental in reviving and re-imagining a moribund horror sub-genre, it also pushed the envelope of digital technology. Sunshine and Millions highlighted his gift for moving seamlessly between genres, which was further evident in his Oscar-winning smash hit Slumdog Millionaire. The architect behind the acclaimed opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics, Danny Boyle took a turn into recreating recent history with Steve Jobs, before returning to the beloved characters of his sophomore feature with T2 Trainspotting. He collaborated with Richard Curtis on the Beatles-inspired comedy Yesterday and envisaged a post-apocalyptic Britain with 28 Years Later. He recently directed Boy Blue’s Free Your Mind - the inaugural production of Manchester’s Aviva Studios. His new film, screening in the festival, is an adaptation of James Graham’s Fleet Street drama Ink. We are delighted to welcome Danny Boyle to HOME for this Screen Talk.
