Revisit Marjane Satrapi's acclaimed animated film about growing up in Tehran during and after Iran’s 1979 revolution, based on her autobiographical graphic novel. In 1970s Iran, young Marjane ‘Marji’ Satrapi watches her country undergo dramatic change. Her progressive family celebrates the 1979 revolution and the overthrow of the Shah, hoping it will bring freedom and a better future. But as Marji grows up, she witnesses the new Islamic regime become increasingly repressive, transforming everyday life through censorship, fear and violence. Sent to Europe for her safety, she struggles to reconcile her Iranian identity with life far from home. Persepolis remains an essential film, serving as a witness Iranian history through the eyes of an outspoken young girl.
