Spanish and Latin American Plays in Translation Join the Out of the Wings collective (OOTW) for an evening of theatre, translation, and their intersection with publishing. How do plays travel from stage to page - and back again - and across linguistic and national borders? Born out of a collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company’s acclaimed Spanish Golden Age season, OOTW has been promoting Iberian and Latin American theatre in English translation since 2008. Since 2016, it has held an annual festival of Ibero-American playwriting, which has brought plays from 14 different countries to London audiences for the first time in English. Many of these translations have gone on to be published by presses such as Methuen Drama, Estreno Plays, and Inti Press, as the theatre publishing scene on both sides of the Atlantic has seen a flourishing of Ibero-American theatre in English translation, in anthologies and stand-alone playtexts. Chaired by OOTW’s director, Professor Catherine Boyle (King’s College London), Page and Stage invites guests to hear readings from a selection of these plays, and those of other projects, and to hear more from the translators, theatre-makers and publishers that have brought them to English-speaking audiences and readers. Guest speakers, including translators, theatre-makers and editors, will be announced soon.
