About this event

Autumn is not just a season of mellow fruitfulness, it is one of the busiest times of the year for the highways in the sky. As summer draws to a close, millions of birds embark on extraordinary journeys. We wave goodbye to familiar favourites such as swallows, swifts, cuckoos, warblers and nightingales as they head south chasing the warmer weather, while welcoming much-loved winter visitors including swans, geese, ducks, waders and thrushes arriving from the Arctic and northern Europe. Join renowned naturalist Ed Drewitt and author and conservationist Mary Colwell for an engaging Nature Salon exploring the remarkable comings and goings of Britain’s birds. Discover where they travel to and from, why they migrate, how they navigate thousands of miles, and which species you should be looking and listening for in Bristol as the seasons change. Whether you’re a seasoned birdwatcher or simply curious about the natural world, this is a chance to celebrate one of nature’s greatest spectacles and learn how to make the most of the autumn months outdoors. Before the talk there’s a chance to accompany Ed on a separately ticketed walk on Brandon Hill, looking for migrating birds. Places for this are limited due to the need to keep the group size small. The walk is NOT included as part of the ticket for the talk. Suitable for ages 8+
