Andrey Zvyagintsev transposes Claude Chabrol’s La Femme infidèle to contemporary Russia, delivering a magnificent political allegory that dissects the mechanics of ego, violence and corruption. At the onset of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Gleb, a powerful CEO, is preoccupied with feeding the war machine with workers, when he learns of his wife’s infidelity. Faced with this discovery and a complex professional decision, his scruples quickly fade. Zvyagintsev’s masterful and darkly humorous tale of impunity will make your blood run cold.
