Just what is it that makes London so different, so appealing? What makes London feel like London? Is it the Thames winding through the city, the jumble of old and new buildings, the distinct character of its neighbourhoods, or the way London has repeatedly rebuilt and reinvented itself? Join architect Eric Parry for a wide-ranging exploration of the forces that have shaped London and continue to change it today. Taking inspiration from Richard Hamilton’s famous 1956 collage, Just what is it that makes today’s homes so different, so appealing?, Eric will turn the question towards the capital. From London’s unusual governance and transport network to its history of rebuilding after physical and social upheaval, he will explore the ingredients that have created this extraordinary “city of cities”. Hosted by Eric Parry Architects, the evening will offer a thought-provoking look at London’s past, present and future, followed by questions and discussion. You do not need to be an architect or an expert in London. Just bring your curiosity about the city and join us for a conversation about what makes London distinctive, and what might come next. And, for this one, we’re opening the doors a little wider. Meet the Architects is normally one of the benefits of London Society membership. But for our final event of 2026, we’re making a special exception and inviting non-members to join us too.
