About this event
What makes a building worth keeping? How do architects balance heritage, sustainability and contemporary life in a city as layered as London? Join The London Society for an exclusive visit to the west London studio of Stiff + Trevillion, the award-winning practice behind some of the capital’s most thoughtful examples of retrofit, regeneration and adaptive reuse. Known for elegant, human-centred architecture that combines craftsmanship, simplicity and a deep respect for context, the practice has spent more than three decades helping shape London through projects that put existing buildings first and create places designed to endure. At a time when London faces urgent questions around sustainability, heritage and the future of development, Stiff + Trevillion’s work offers a compelling alternative to demolition and replacement. Their projects demonstrate how existing buildings can be transformed to meet contemporary needs while retaining the character, materials and stories that make places distinctive. Members will hear directly from the team about the practice’s approach to architecture, design and city-making, and how they work with clients, craftspeople, contractors and communities to deliver projects that are both practical and beautiful. The discussion will explore a selection of recent and current work, including TBC.London, the award-winning deep retrofit office scheme near Tower Bridge; Arding & Hobbs, the transformation of a listed Clapham landmark into a vibrant mixed-use destination; and the ambitious restoration and reimagining of the world-famous Maida Vale Studios, which will create a globally significant centre for music and film production. As part of the evening, members will enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the practice’s studio and gain insight into how architects, interior designers, model makers and visualisation specialists collaborate to bring projects from concept to reality. Meet the Architects has become one of The London Society’s most popular member events, offering a rare opportunity to step inside the studios of the people shaping London and to hear directly about the ideas, challenges and decisions behind the buildings we experience every day. We hope you’ll join us for what promises to be a fascinating evening of conversation, learning and architecture.
