Overseen by director Michael Mann, Manhunter: The Final Cut brings the influential 1986 serial-killer classic back to the big screen. Based on Thomas Harris’s Red Dragon, the film follows retired FBI profiler Will Graham (William Petersen) as he is drawn back into active duty to hunt a brutal serial killer known as The Tooth Fairy (Tom Noonan). To understand the mind of his prey, Graham must revisit the trauma of a previous case and seek the insight of imprisoned killer Dr. Hannibal Lecktor (arguably best played by Brian Cox), in the first screen adaptation of Harris’s iconic character. Widely regarded as a landmark of the crime-thriller genre, Manhunter showcases Michael Mann’s signature visual style and distils it into a taut and heart-pounding two-hour thriller. The Final Cut was created from a new 4K scan of the original 35mm negative and features restored audio sourced from the original analog masters, allowing Mann’s immersive masterpiece to crawl even further under your skin.
