Artists IAO-RCO Organ Competition 2026 winner Overview An enthralling hour of exceptional music-making is guaranteed by the winner of the 2026 Incorporated Association of Organists (ICO) and Royal College of Organists (RCO) Competition. Founded in 2018 and open to organists aged from 18 to 26 years, the Competition gives early-career organists an outstanding opportunity to gain recognition and experience, celebrating their dedication, artistry and technical skill. Tingshuo Yang is a pianist, organist, and composer. He studied piano at the Royal College of Music Junior Department from 2012 to 2016 and at the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg from 2017 until 2021. In 2018, Tingshuo was awarded a music scholarship to Eton College, and since 2023 he has been Organ Scholar at St John’s College, Cambridge, where he was a student of Colin Walsh, graduating with a starred First Class Bachelor of Arts degree in music. From 2026, Tingshuo will study for a Master of Music degree in organ performance under Paul Jacobs at the Juilliard School. Tingshuo achieved his LRSM in piano performance in 2016. In April 2019, he made his solo piano debut with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, and the following year he opened the ‘Young Luxembourgish Classical Talents’ recital series in Berlin. In 2021 he was awarded the ‘Diplome de Concert’, and the ‘Prix du Meilleur Laureat’ at the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg. His debut recording, J.S. Bach: Clavierübung Part I – Partitas, was released on Luxembourg Classics in June 2024 to critical acclaim. It was chosen as Album of the Week on Radio 100,7, with Luc Boentges praising the recording. Pizzicato described the album as ‘timelessly beautiful’ and ‘spontaneously creative’. Alongside his achievements as a pianist, Tingshuo has distinguished himself as an organist. He was awarded First Prize at the Northern Ireland International Organ Competition and IAO-RCO Organ Playing Competition in 2026, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists in 2025. He appears regularly as a recitalist, in venues including St John's Smith Square, London, The Queen's College, Oxford, and Uppsala Cathedral in the 2025-26 academic year, and looks forward to performing at Birmingham Town Hall, St George's Hanover Square, and Westminster Abbey in 2026-27. In addition to playing on upcoming St John’s recordings, Tingshuo has appeared on multiple BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4 broadcasts, most notably during the inauguration of the new Willis/Harrison organ at the St John's College Organ Festival. In 2026, Tingshuo was awarded the Donald Wort Prize by the Faculty of Music in Cambridge for the highest final recital mark in his cohort. As a composer, Tingshuo has won first prize in the D’Overbroekes Composition Competition and was runner-up in both the RCO Composition Competition and the Homerton College Composition Competition in 2025. He was shortlisted for the BBC/NCEM Young Composers Award in 2024, the Charles Wood Composers’ Competition in 2025, and the Carmack Award in 2026. Tingshuo also has a passion for performing new music and has given premieres of works by leading living composers, including Claude Lenners, Anna Semple, Cecilia McDowall, Tim Watts, Jeremy Thurlow, and is currently collaborating with Raymond Yiu on an exciting new work.
