Lunchtime Jazz: Jon Lloyd & John Law - Naissance
St George's BristolGreat George Street
Fri 18 Sept · 13:00
About this event
As part of his PP ianissimo series pianist John Law explores sound, space and silence in the beautiful acoustic of St George’s with his long-time collaborator, saxophonist Jon Lloyd. Contemporary jazz, steeped in non-Western music, atmospheric melodic fusion and hushed, neo-classical grace. Naissance is the continuation of a project started in 2019 when the two master-musicians began improvising saxophone and keyboard lines over ambient looped samples of renaissance sacred vocal music along with live visuals. Today they present some of their original, minimalist compositions: an evolving musical conversation with the emphasis on beauty and form. Melodic jazz meets contemporary classical and minimalism, with subtle electronic soundscapes and hypnotic repeating grooves. “Steeped in the ECM aesthetic… sounds like the only music you ever want to hear.” Jon Turney, London Jazz News, 2023 Supported by Arts Council England and All Instruments, Westbury. Suitable for ages 14+
