The concert opens with British composer Elizabeth Maconchy String Quartet No.3, Op.15. Written in a single continuous movement, the work is known for its intense focus, dramatic character, and close musical conversation between all four instruments. Next, the quartet performs a contemporary miniature by Jin Cho Yearning You Yet, which introduces a quiet, reflective atmosphere with delicate modern textures. To close the afternoon, the quartet presents 19th-century German composer Emilie Mayer String Quartet in G minor, Op.14. Highly regarded during her lifetime, Mayer’s quartet pairs warm romantic melodies with rich and expressive harmonies.
