About this event
An evidence-informed exploration of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, its causes, and the treatment options available today. Followed by Q&A. Why does Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) remain so difficult to diagnose and treat, even now? In this workshop, BACP-registered psychotherapist Amy Preston offers an evidence-based overview of PMDD – exploring current understanding of the condition, while acknowledging the many questions that remain unanswered. We'll look at PMDD as a hormone sensitivity disorder rather than a hormonal imbalance, its relationship to genetics, trauma and co-occurring conditions like ADHD, autism and hEDS, and why the line between association and causation is so often blurred. Rather than focusing on treatment alone, this workshop will help you critically evaluate information – including the growing wave of oversimplified claims and commercialised "cures" found on social media – and understand the real benefits and limitations of options ranging from lifestyle approaches and SSRIs to hormonal treatments and surgery. Amy will also address common misconceptions around hysterectomy and oophorectomy, and close with practical strategies for living well alongside a chronic and often misunderstood condition. Understand current theories on PMDD, and why it remains so challenging to diagnose and treat Explore the relationship between biology, life experience and co-occurring conditions Navigate conflicting information and treatment claims, especially on social media Gain confidence to advocate for yourself within healthcare settings Amy Preston is a BACP-registered psychotherapist working in private practice in London and Norfolk. She has worked within multidisciplinary mental health services in both South Africa and London, and now runs her own practice with a particular interest in supporting women experiencing complex emotional difficulties and conditions that are frequently misunderstood or overlooked. Amy has developed a specialist interest in PMDD, focusing on its intersection with neurodivergence and connective tissue disorders, and is passionate about helping people navigate complex, often conflicting information with critical thinking, self-advocacy and compassion. ⭐ Seed Talks have done an incredible job at making insanely cool topics easily digestible and enjoyable to learn about for ones self improvement.
