About this event

Doors 6:45 PM, Music 7:30 PM - 1 set of music Line-up: Leo Morland - Guitar George Garford - Alto saxophone Huw V Williams - Double bass Sacha Harlan - Drum kit About: Leo Morland is a guitarist and composer from South London, known as an idiosyncratic player and a catalyst for esoteric, intense, and satisfying moments of group improvisation. He has studied with Percy Pursglove, David Preston and John O'Gallagher, and has performed with notable musicians from many corners of the UK jazz spectrum including Steve Noble, Lucy-Anne Daniels and and Mark Hodgson. His quartet have developed a rough-edged and organic sound since forming in 2024, with closely interwoven polyrhythmic parts and searing melodic pathos hurtling through a chimeric set of original music. Each member, steeped in respectively unique branches spanning free improvisation, modern jazz, the contemporary European scene, and folk music, informs the vision of the band, resulting in an intentionally unique aesthetic formed of broad-ranging influences. They will be presenting new music for this occasion alongside interpretations of works by Ravel and Messaien for improvising ensemble.
