About this event

Godzilla was rebooted once more to thrilling effect with Takashi Yamazaki’s 2023 mighty blockbuster, becoming the first Godzilla film to win an Oscar. Set in the aftermath of WWII, Takashi Yamazaki’s take on the classic channels the tone and energy of the original Godzilla from 1954, unleashing a terrifying creation upon a nation seeking to rebuild after unfathomable trauma. Ryunosuke Kamiki plays a pilot plagued with shame and survivor’s guilt. Meanwhile, a giant monster mutates following nuclear tests, and Japan must wrestle with a new horror. Featuring excellent performances and Oscar-winning visual effects, Takashi Yamazaki , who also wrote the screenplay and supervised the VFX, scored a triumph with this masterly film. We can’t wait to see what he does with the imminent sequel. In Japanese with English subtitles.
