About this event

Intro written by Steve Rubie: Well, no 606 Club Festival would be complete without the guitar of Jim Mullen and I thought it would be nice to build a gig around this veteran of the scene. And I have to say, it wasn’t difficult. So this evening we have not one but four great guitarists, all from different backgrounds, closely associated with the Club and keen to play with Jim and each other. With ages spanning from 30’s to late 70’s this promises to be a brilliant night of guitar-led music, which a guitarist friend of mine has christened “Guitarmageddon”! A master of touch, tone and swing, the multi-Award winning Jim Mullen has long been hailed as “a true giant of British jazz guitar,” with fellow musicians and critics alike praising his “unmistakable voice” and “effortless fluency.” Originally from Glasgow he made his name playing with a number of seminal bands through the 70’s and 80’s including The Average White Band and his own highly acclaimed jazz/funk band “Morrissey-Mullen”. A master guitarist. Nigel Price is a highly skilled guitarist as well as an accomplished composer whose swinging bebop approach combined with flawless control is a delight. He has played on more than 50 albums, spent ten years with acid jazz outfit the Filthy Six, was a member of James Taylor’s jazz/funk band and has appeared at Ronnie Scott’s over 600 times and has received the Parliamentary Jazz Award for Best Jazz Ensemble and the British Jazz Award for Best Small Group. Guitarist Rob Luft is both a Peter Whittingham and Kenny Wheeler Prize recipient whose debut album, ‘Riser’ received widespread critical acclaim and led to a string of Award nominations, including Jazz FM Awards “Instrumentalist of the Year”. In 2019, Rob was selected as a BBC New Generation Jazz Artist and since then he gone from strength to strength. Most recently honoured with the "Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year" Award at the 2025 Parliamentary Jazz Awards Rob is considered to be one of the leading musicians of his generation. A founding member of the now iconic British big band Loose Tubes, guitarist John Parricelli is renowned as a musician of impeccable taste, versatility and skill. His work alongside highly regarded jazz artists such as Andy Sheppard, Norma Winstone & Kenny Wheeler further established his reputation as a first-call player, which then expanded to include a who’s who of the pop world including the likes of Annie Lennox, Robbie Williams, & Mike Oldfield. These days a busy studio musician he can be heard regularly with the brilliant band from Strictly Come Dancing alongside a host of TV and film music. A brilliant and highly respected player. Also featured this evening, the Ross Stanley Trio. “Mullen…One of the great Jazz guitarists working today” Jazzwise; “Price…fluent, imaginative and technically impeccable” Evening Standard; “Luft…fizzing with vitality and stuffed full of quirky and original musical ideas” UK Jazz News; “Having Parricelli in the band is like having several world class musicians, all in the one chair.” UK Jazz News
