A rousing fanfare – Shostakovich’s flashy and exciting Festive Overture , alongside Haydn’s landmark Trumpet Concerto, performed by Royal Philharmonic Society Award winner Matilda Lloyd. There are vibrant folk melodies in Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances , menacing ballet music in Prokofiev’s ‘Montagues and Capulets’ from Romeo and Juliet and a joyous rhapsody for orchestra and violin in The Lark Ascending , where the sound of the soloist rises like a bird in flight.
