About this event
As a nuclear catastrophe approaches, the suburban Pollard family confronts extinction through four increasingly deranged episodes involving bodily transformation, domestic ritual and the possibility of rebirth. Their fractured story unfolds like a transmission from another dimension, performed with total sincerity by actors who appear to inhabit a world whose logic is only barely connected to our own. FINAL FLESH began as a collection of absurd scripts written by Vernon Chatman, co-creator of Wonder Showzen, then anonymously commissioned from four separate custom-fetish video companies whose performers believed every word was genuine. Edited together into a single feature, the result is an uncanny collision of conceptual comedy, outsider performance and apocalyptic science fiction. Hilarious, unsettling and almost impossible to categorise, it feels less like a conventional film than an artefact recovered from a parallel civilisation.
