About this event

Taking you back to the Texas dance halls of the 1930s and 40s, Ed Hicks and His Hot Cow Licks conjure a Saturday night from another place in time— twin fiddles weaving sweet harmonies, burning hot jazz solos, and Country crooning low enough to sway to. It's hillbilly music with jazz running through its veins, the old dance halls humming back into life one chorus at a time. Fronting the band is Ed Hicks (The Nightcaps, The Savoy Cabbages), an electric frontman who has toured with some of the great US roots musicians. He's joined by Sam Draper (The Woodlanders, Holloman), bringing rich experience and dazzling jazz playing to every solo, and Emily Smith (Ragged Out String Band, Firecrackers), whose deep exploration of old-time fiddle music runs right through the band's sound. One of their favourite bass players rounds out the rhythm section on the night. Doors open 7pm. Music starts 8.30pm. The venue is mixed seated and standing. Tables are limited and available on a first come first served basis so, if you’d like a seat, we recommend arriving early!
