In 2004, during Mark Ball’s tenure, Fierce Festival commissioned Luke Jerram’s Sky Orchestra . The public artwork was a collaboration with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) and involved members of the orchestra flying low above the city in hot air balloons at dusk, playing music that would seed the city’s imaginations. More than twenty years later, our two organisations are joining forces once again. We’ve commissioned some of our favourite live artists in the UK - SERAFINE1369 and Josh Anio Grigg, as well as Dickie Beau and Helen Noir - to seed new collaborations with members of the CBSO. This work-in-progress double bill, developed over an intentionally short period of time, is an indulgence in the possibilities of collaborations.
