About this event

“Birds of the Borough” by local artist Becca Hoodless is a collection of paintings inspired by her work commute around South Norwood Lake and Grounds over the past year.  Since moving to the local area, Becca has been incredibly surprised by the variety of birds she has encountered on such a short journey. Everyday, she began recognising and noticing patterns in their calls (some recordings are located throughout the exhibition), as she witnessed chicks become juveniles, and certain species appear and disappear as they migrated. Each bird has been painted onto uniquely shaped wooden offcuts, sustainably sourced and given a second life. The shapes of the wood inspire each design, and every painting is based on a bird she has encountered. Discovering this green space and connecting with nature has transformed Becca’s daily life, and she now genuinely looks forward to her daily commute,
