A Portrait in Film & Music Mstislav Rostropovich – affectionately and popularly known as Slava – was one of the most influential and charismatic musicians of the 20th century. A legendary cellist and magnetic cultural figure, he inspired generations of composers to expand the instrument’s possibilities. Petar Pejčić’s tour programme celebrates Slava’s centenary in 2027 with music written for, premiered by, or indelibly associated with him. Short film clips of interviews, rehearsal excerpts and moments with his contemporaries will bring his voice and spirit into the concert space too, and Petar follows in Slava’s footsteps by commissioning a new work to add to the cello repertoire. A laureate of multiple prestigious competitions and 2025 Young Classical Artists Trust winner, Petar has already made major concert appearances with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Helsinki Philharmonic. He’s been hailed as “a wonderful musician with a compelling sense of storytelling” (Le Soir), and this concert shows precisely why. Rising Stars are nominated by the artistic directors of Europe’s most prestigious venues which are members of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO).
