About this event

A gripping Algerian mystery thriller, Algiers follows the investigation into the abduction of a young girl, an event that sends fear, suspicion and anger through the city. As public tension rises, police inspector Sami Sadoudi and trauma psychiatrist Dr Dounia Assam are drawn into a case that forces them to confront not only the crime itself, but also the unresolved shadows of Algeria’s past. Written and directed by Chakib Taleb-Bendiab, Algiers marks a powerful debut feature, combining the urgency of a police thriller with a deeper reflection on memory, trauma and social fracture. Set against the charged atmosphere of the Algerian capital, the film offers a tense, emotionally layered portrait of a society still carrying the weight of history. Algiers represented Algeria at the Oscars for Best International Feature.
