About this event

Zubin Kanga performs the world premiere of PARTITA by Alex Groves, a fusion of Baroque forms and electronic music, at a classical club night. Combining the piano with multiple keyboards, a ROLI Seaboard and electronics, the piece brings together classical virtuosity, queer culture and novel technologies. With live lighting, the Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer is turned into a classical music nightclub for this set of Baroque dances for the 21st century. PARTITA was commissioned by Zubin Kanga as part of his international music-technology research project Cyborg Soloists, supported by a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship and Royal Holloway, University of London. ‘Cyborg Pianist’ Zubin Kanga is at the forefront of creating, co-creating and performing groundbreaking interdisciplinary works that explore and redefine how musicians can interact with new technologies. Alex Groves is an Ivor Novello Award-nominated composer and curator working across contemporary classical and electronic music. Described as ‘hypnotic’, ‘grungy’ and ‘energising’, his music engages the mind and the body, sometimes with expansive sonic landscapes and other times with driving rhythms and infectious hooks.
