In the early days and months after giving birth, self-care can sometimes feel unrealistic, even impossible. Between broken sleep, feeding, recovery, and the constant responsibility of caring for a baby, many new mums find themselves running on empty, questioning themselves, or feeling guilt for struggling at a time they thought they would feel “happy.” This workshop offers a compassionate and psychologically-grounded look at self-care in the newborn stage and beyond. We will explore the intense transition to motherhood and identity change to nervous system overload and the loss of space, autonomy, and predictability. This workshop focuses on what actually supports new mums in feeling more steady, resourced, and like themselves again. Workshop Highlights : Understand the early transition into motherhood and why it can feel so overwhelming Gain insight into how sleep deprivation, hormonal changes, and constant caregiving impact your nervous system Learn simple, realistic self-care and reconnection practices that work within the constraints of having a newborn Discover tools to manage guilt, comparison, and the pressure to “get it right” Jordan McPhail is an accredited Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist, speaker, and registered mental health nurse with a decade of experience. Her early career spanned NHS crisis teams, inpatient units, forensic services, and rehab, before moving into a leadership and therapy role within Defence Mental Health Services. Today, she works in private practice, helping clients recover from trauma, anxiety, and burnout through a combination of EMDR and approaches that support the nervous system’s natural capacity to heal. She is also the founder of The Gentle Return - an evolving space for people who are ready to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and step away from the constant pressure to do and be more.
