It holds a lending library, a local history archive, and an art gallery recognised by Art UK, alongside Victoria Hall for lectures and concerts. Its weekly autumn/winter lecture programme runs alongside debates, a science discussion group, a film society, an opera circle, literary circles, courses and classes, and changing exhibitions — a genuinely multi-disciplinary learned society rather than a single-subject institute.
