www.glasgowlife.org.uk/arts-music-and-culture/venues/city-halls →City Halls, opened in 1841 as Glasgow's first purpose-built venue for large public gatherings and concerts, is the city's oldest surviving concert venue and has hosted speakers from Charles Dickens to Gladstone; since a 2006 renovation it has been the home of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Its Grand Hall, prized by orchestras for its warm acoustics, suits visitors who want chamber music, BBC SSO concerts and recitals in a smaller, more detailed room than the Royal Concert Hall's.
