This conference examines how women’s leadership influences economic, political and social outcomes & how leadership barriers can be overcome. Bringing together leading researchers, policymakers and practitioners from around the world, this two-day conference will examine how women's leadership shapes economic, political and social outcomes, and what policies and interventions can expand women's access to leadership roles. This inaugural Women in Leadership: Accelerating Development Outcomes conference brings together leading researchers, policymakers and practitioners from around the world. This two-day conference will examine how women's leadership shapes economic, political and social outcomes, and what policies and interventions can expand women's access to leadership roles. Across keynote lectures, research presentations and panel discussions, participants will explore evidence from around the world on the barriers women face in attaining leadership positions, the effectiveness of policies designed to increase representation, and the broader impacts of women's leadership on development outcomes. The conference is also taking part in partnership with the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET), BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), Center for Global Development (CGD), Center of Arab Women for Training and Research (CAWTAR), Asia Pacific Women in Leadership (APWiL) and Women in Economics in Latin America and the Caribbean (WELAC). The Hub for Equal Representation in the Economy is a research initiative that uses data-driven economic analysis and research to understand - and help close - persistent gender gaps in representation, pay, and opportunity. Established in 2022, our work combines cutting-edge research with public engagement, informing policy action on gender equality in the workplace and inclusive growth. By translating rigorous evidence into accessible insights, the Hub aims to ensure that talent is not lost – and that economic opportunity is shaped by ability, not by gender or circumstance. Our work has been widely cited by policymakers and covered in leading media vehicles. The Hub is currently funded by the Gates Foundation (with previous funds from Pivotal Ventures) and hosted by STICERD at LSE. It is co-directed by Professors Oriana Bandiera and Camille Landais.
