In this public lecture, Rory Stewart explores how economic interdependence, technological networks and global supply chains have become instruments of geopolitical power. As states increasingly leverage trade, energy, finance and critical technologies to advance strategic interests, longstanding assumptions about globalisation, cooperation and security are being fundamentally reshaped. Drawing on his experience as a scholar, diplomat and former Cabinet minister, Stewart examines the implications of this emerging international landscape for democratic governance, international institutions and the balance of power between states. Addressing some of the most pressing political and economic challenges of our time, this lecture will offer fresh insights into the changing nature of power, dependency and resilience in a rapidly evolving world order.
