Runaway teenager Pamela Pearl escapes from a psychiatric hospital and forms an unlikely friendship with Nicky Marotta, a rebellious streetwise girl surviving on the margins of New York City. Reinventing themselves as the punk duo "The Sleez Sisters", the pair become underground sensations, but their growing notoriety brings them into conflict with parents, police and the institutions determined to separate them. Released at the dawn of the 1980s, Times Square captures the final years of Manhattan's most notorious era, transforming the decaying streets of Midtown into the backdrop for an exuberant celebration of youth, rebellion and self-invention. Directed by Allan Moyle and featuring an iconic soundtrack packed with new wave and punk artists including Patti Smith, Talking Heads, Lou Reed and The Ramones, the film initially struggled at the box office before becoming a beloved cult classic and an enduring portrait of New York's vanished underground.
