A lavish MGM production that failed to find commercial success on release (or even on its subsequent re-release), this is a road movie whose journey is taken on foot. It is also a rarity within the genre, in that no matter how important the road taken, it never forgets that there’s no place like home (even if the film was shot a long, long way from Kansas).
