Ronald Harwood adapted his own acclaimed play, which was based on his own experiences working as a dresser for actor-manager Sir Donald Wolfit, portrayed as ‘Sir’. Sir is leading a theatre group performing Shakespeare in the provinces during the war, but his mental capacities are beginning to fade, and Norman, his dresser, has the task of nursing him into another performance of King Lear. Courtenay recreates his theatre performance as the sensitive Norman and Finney delivers a barn-storming Sir. A 35mm presentation in association with The Cinema Museum.
