About this event
A wounded Union soldier, played by Clint Eastwood, is taken in by the inhabitants of a secluded Southern girls’ boarding school during the American Civil War. As he recovers under their care, the isolated household begins to shift in tone, with tension, jealousy, and suppressed desire slowly emerging beneath the surface of polite Southern hospitality. Don Siegel constructs something quietly oppressive, letting the closed environment do most of the work as civility gradually erodes into manipulation and emotional volatility. What starts as a simple act of care becomes increasingly uneasy, with power constantly shifting between caretaker and captive.
