Symphony Hall, 8 Centenary Square, Birmingham
Sat 12 Sept · 10:00
The world’s most prestigious brass band competition returns to Symphony Hall, featuring 20 of the best ensembles from the UK, Europe and Australia in pursuit of their ambition to become the 172nd British Open champion and lift the iconic Gold Shield trophy. First held in 1853, victory remains the pinnacle of any band’s contesting achievements. This year each band will perform Philip Sparke’s equally iconic composition, ‘Music of the Spheres’, rightly regarded as one of the ultimate tests of musicality and technique, and which has been chosen to celebrate the composer’s 75th birthday this year. It promises to be a day full of exceptional music making, passion and drama as the focus of the global banding world centres on Symphony Hall once more.
