A teenage girl runs away from home, prompting her worried parents to search New York City for her. In the process, they become involved with a support group for parents of missing children and begin rediscovering themselves as they struggle to understand the widening gap between their generation and their daughter's. Blending improvisation, gentle satire, and musical interludes, the film captures the cultural upheaval of early 1970s America with warmth and humour. Rather than taking sides, it observes both parents and teenagers with sympathy, finding comedy and poignancy in their mutual misunderstandings.

Not the same tradition as the lineage above — a genuinely different thread to pull, if you want one.
